Black Friday: A Love Letter to My Favorite Boutiques
Our clients have different style goals, budgets, personal styles, and sizing needs. I am so proud of the relationships we have built with each of these DMV boutiques. They help our team provide the highest level of service to our clients with the best that fashion has to offer today.
As a pro-shopper, personal stylist, and lover of all things style and fashion, I do Black Friday at my favorite local boutiques. It is a way to score something truly special for myself and loved ones. You can count on the fact that I will NOT be at the mall or any major retailers this Friday. In the spirit of shopping local this weekend, here is a roundup of the markdowns and special offers to kick off the holiday season — plus what I will be eyeballing myself at each shop!
I can always count on The Hive and The Shoe Hive to deliver the latest in designer cool-girl style with brands like Iro, Current Elliot, Tibi, Rag & Bone, Ulla Johnson, and Isabel Marant. I have been pulling from shopping destination The Shoe Hive for years and The Hive since it opened a year ago. I also participated in The Hive’s recent Stylist Days series, working with five new clients.
The two Old Town boutiques are planning a Black Friday extravaganza with sales starting at 6 a.m.:
6am - 8 am 30% off entire store
8am - 10 am 20%off entire store
10am - 8pm 10% off entire store
What I Want to Buy:
The Hive carries my favorite blazer line — Veronica Beard. I have never met a Veronica Beard blazer I didn’t fall madly in love with. I also discovered this season Alicia Adams Alpaca, now one of my favorite sweater lines. The long, lean silhouette of the jacket cardigans make it the perfect sophisticated third piece for work and off-duty. My clients are in love and we have been on a special-order binge to get more Alicia Adams Alpaca sweaters! And confession — I already bought myself a little something from The Shoe Hive. Rise and shine to get 30 percent off these fabulous designer investment pieces!
Oak is a new shop in Kensington, Md. opened by one of the former owners of Mustard Seed in Bethesda. I have been pulling there for clients for less than a year to wonderful results! The affordable price point, drapey silhouettes, and earthy vibe of the shop is a great mix for my clients who have either a minimalist or hip boho look.
The cozy boutique will offer 40 percent off select clothing items, plus all wool and leather bags (final sale)!
What I Want to Buy:
I love buying jewelry here! It’s so darn affordable and just plain fun. I also have had great luck with their scarves and slouchy athleisure pants. If you do leggings, there are endless tunic options to elevate your everyday style. P.S. - I will be at Oak on December 14 hosting a style workshop, talking about this very topic!
Owner Wendy Rabin has a knack for mixing cool of-the-moment styles that are elevated and sophisticated. I always joke that she knows what to offer grown-a$# women who want hip clothing. When I pull from her shop, I literally pull enough to do a pop-up at my clients’ homes. From Veronica Beard to A.P.C. to Frame to Coclico to APiece Apart (Hello Kim Gordon is their new model!) to Jocelyn fur you can just give me one of everything.
The Annapolis boutique will have new markdowns for Black Friday, including tons of denim, all at 40% off. Clients who shop Friday/Saturday will receive $50 off their next purchase. The shop is pre-selling now!
What I Want to Buy:
I am partial to the denim and sweater selection at WRABYN. Love the Frame cropped flares and cropped straight leg jeans. The 360 cashmere and Philanthropy pieces have become my cool-mom-on-the-go tops.
Owner Gabby Klingman and I have partnered to produce style workshops at Lynn Louisa. The events we have done together always sell out, and my clients who attend always fall in love with her airy Georgetown boutique and its exclusive offerings. What is always the most surprising is how well-priced and affordable many of the brands are. She mixes Frame denim with lace Ganni dresses, Just Female jackets and more.
The entire store will be 25% off Thursday through Monday. To shop online, use the code TURKEY25 to save.
What I Want to Buy:
I want the long Just Female Holmes coat (which a client purchased just a couple of weeks ago). I also am in love with the red Mini Mox red crossbody clutch plus the Sophie Blake pyramid necklace.
When I want designer, luxury clothing, shoes and accessories for a client these two Georgetown mainstays are where I go. We are talking Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Roksanda, Victoria Beckham, The Row, Chloe, Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga. Don’t be intimidated by the lux vibe either. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Hu’s Wear has a downstairs contemporary section as well that stocks Re/Done denim, Mother Denim, Iro and Veronica Beard.
The two locations will feature 30-50% off on Fall/Winter collections.
What I Want to Buy:
A pair of classic black Jimmy Choo pumps and the black knit cutout dress by The Row.
What can I say about this DC institution that has been dressing the DC woman for decades? I love the many exclusive Canadian, American and European brands Betsy carries. Pair that with the upscale salon setting and the top-notch staff that does an incredible job each and every time for us and our clients. The brands I always go to for clients are Marie Saint Pierre, Iris Setlakwe, and Hilton Hollis. She also carries Max Mara’s plus size line Marina Rinaldi.
The fall sale starts this Friday, and Saturday is the boutique’s 29th anniversary celebration with special guest Anni Quan.
What I Want to Buy:
That red ruffle Marie Saint Pierre blazer. I also want the burgundy Aquatalia block heel pumps that give me a boost, but are so comfortable I can do a day of client shopping in them.
I love the ladies at Violet and their fun, youthful shop, clothing and energy! This is the perfect place when I have a younger client on a budget looking for some affordable sassy staples. I have pulled from Violet for TV style segments and the models have bought the clothing on the spot! I remember owner Julie Egermayer telling me when we first met, “I want my shop to be a place that you can come to after having a bad day at work and feel better.” I am confident that her client would agree she has achieved that feeling!
The shop is featuring a $15 sale rack and 50% off accessories, including shoes and bags. They also have some major news: “Violet Boutique is excited to announce that we are moving from our current Georgetown location at the end of November, and are headed to the Shaw neighborhood. Our last day in Georgetown will be Sunday, November 26. And in December - we’re back. We will be opening a temporary pop-up shop from 12/1 - 12/31 in The Shay (1924 8th St NW - the former Steven Alan space), and the tentative opening date for our new location (a few doors down from the pop-up space) is March 2018.”
Congratulations Violet! Can’t wait to follow along with your new adventures in the Shaw neighborhood!
What I Want to Buy:
I am not a big dress person, but I love the flowy long and midi dresses at Violet. Layered with a tissue turtleneck and boots? ’70s Boho perfection.
Happy t
