Mad for Plaid
I recently posted on Facebook a retrospective of Dr. Martens. Yes, when you reach a certain age, you bear witness to trends and style milestones that come back around again. And again. And again. You find yourself saying, “Oh, yes! I rocked those!” And you use the word “rocked,” which is, in and of itself…telling.
Anyhoo, since I was reminiscing about my Doc Martens’s days gone by, it got me thinking about one of my favorite trends this season: plaid. Now, before you start down the Pearl Jam road of flannels tied around your waist, ripped jeans and the like…I am not going there.
I am talking all the ladylike plaid sheath dresses this season. They range from simple to pleated to draped to ruched. But the silhouette remains the same — not a skater dress with a full skirt, not an a-line shift, but a feminine, body-conscious sheath. I love how the plaid this season, a pattern that can easily look junior (Catholic school jumper anyone?), feels sophisticated and sexy.
The look is office-appropriate and can even be dressed up for evening events. (Plaid and some sparkle? Yes!). So get out there and get into some plaid, ladies. But, thinking we might need to pass on the Doc Martens this time around. 😉
